Holy Cross Central School is pleased to have hosted Dr. Lori Desautels from Butler University to check out the new Social-Emotional Learning classroom. She is a nationally recognized expert on Educational Neuroscience. She was excited to see this research being applied at the school level to benefit all children. During a recent SEL lesson, students were taught about the neuroplasticity of the brain and created brains out of clay, one of which was presented to Dr. Desautels.
HCC students are taught a core curriculum in SEL skills (self-regulation, coping, problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication) in the classroom. They have an additional SEL class each week taught by Lisa Moore (Tiger Coach) and Brandy Sawyer. Students with specific SEL needs have individual plans and are personally instructed by the Tiger Coach.
